BALTIMORE, Md. – The Lasell women's volleyball season saw their historic season come to a close on Thursday night, falling in straight sets to the ninth ranked team in the country in Johns Hopkins in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Jays won 25-11, 25-9, 25-11. The Lasers end their season at 27-5, while the Blue Jays move on to the second round of the NCAA Tournament at 26-4.
The Lasers received first, but the Blue Jays would score the first seven points of the match, helping them to a 25-11 set win. The second set was a similar story, with the Blue Jays taking it 25-9. The beginning of the third set was a bright spot for the Lasers, as they held an early 4-1 lead. But it would not hold, as the Blue Jays scored the next six points, eventually winning the third set 25-11.
The Lasers were led by their two first team all-conference members in McKenna McCool and Juliana Medini, as they had six and five kills respectively. That accounted for more than half the team's kills. Sydney Katz was her usual self, setting things up with eight set assists. Defensively, Maddie Caro had six digs, while Medini had three blocks. That brought her season total to 124, just four off the school record of 128 set by Janet Jennings in 1999. It gives her 308 career blocks, building on a record she broke a few matches ago. She is the only player in program history with over 300 career blocks.
It was a historic season for the Lasers, as they set new program records for wins with 27 and wins in a row with 16.
