GNAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 6

( FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 30 - OCT. 6 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kate Walker, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., MB - Oakland, Calif.)

Posting a .377 attack percentage, the senior middle blocker guided No. 15 Johnson & Wales to a 3-0 week, which included a pair of conference shutouts against Simmons and St. Joseph (CT), averaging 4.00 kills and 1.13 blocks per set. Midway through the week, Walker notched 17 kills, while dominating the net with four blocks (1 solo, 3 assisted) in a 3-1 win over non-conference Endicott . Early in the week, against conference Simmons, the northern California native posted a staggering .462 attack percentage recording 14 kills while tallying four total blocks (1 solo, 3 assisted). 

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Elyssa Nicolas, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., DS - San Francisco, Calif.)

The junioe defensive specialist helped No. 15 JWU to a 3-0 week by averaging 5.33 digs per set. Midway through the week against Endicott College, the northern California native registered 25 digs in the programs second straight win over the Gulls. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Harmony Johnson, Suffolk (Fr., S - Riverside, Calif.)

Johnson set Suffolk's offense in a 3-0 week averaging 9.36 assists, 0.55 aces and and 1.82 digs per set. She started out with 22 handouts and two digs in a straight set win over Becker to build up for a conference tri-match where she dished out 9.00 aps and 2.00 dps. In a five-set win over Emmanuel, she had 37 assists, eight digs, four aces and a pair of blocks before wrapping up the week with a double-double effort that featured a career-high 44 assists and 10 digs with a pair of aces and three kills. 


WEEK 6 HONOR ROLL

Morgan Flynn, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, LB - Reading, Mass.) - Flynn picked up 4.46 digs per set in a 1-2 week for the Chargers. She began the action with 24 in a tough 3-2 loss to New England College. She followed with 17 in each of the final two matches, a 3-1 win over Emmanuel and a 3-1 loss to Suffolk. She added five aces for the week. 

Kiana Perez Diaz, Lasell (So., OH - Juncos, Puerto Rico) - Perez Diaz averaged 4.80 kills (.180 attack percentage) and 4.10 digs per set with three double-doubles in a 1-2 week for the Lasers at the Skidmore Classic. She registered 11 kills and 10 digs Friday evening against Skidmore, smashed 23 kills with a .308 attack percentage and made 16 digs in a Saturday victory over Sage , and finished with 14 kills and 15 digs in a loss to Skidmore.

Sarah Farnum, Norwich (Fr., RS - North Andover, Mass.A) - Farnum shone engineering the Cadets' attack again this week as she averaged 9.89 assists per set. The freshman setter was even better in a pair of GNAC wins averaging 10.67 assists per set while adding 2.0 digs per set and a pair of blocks. Farnum registered 25 assists in an early week loss to Plattsburgh before adding 34 and 30 assists in wins over Saint Joseph's (Me.) and Anna Maria, respectively. 

Katryna Veasey, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., OH - Quincy, Mass.) - Veasey averaged 2.50 kills and 3.50 digs per set in a 1-1 week. She notched her eighth double-double of the season Tuesday against Fisher with 11 kills and a season-high 20 digs, plus she collected two service aces and one block. Veasey became the third player in program history to collect at least 900 career digs. Saturday morning at Gordon, she earned nine kills and eight digs along with a block assist. 

Avery Pollard, Rivier (So, S - Ballston Lake, N.Y.) - Pollard was impressive on both ends of the court averaging 10.22 assists, 0.78 aces, 2.22 digs and 0.67 blocks per set in a 3-0 week for the Raiders. As a team, Rivier hit .288 on the week with Pollard at the helm directing the offense. The second-year player highlighted her week with a 36-assist, three-ace, eight-dig performance in a 3-0 win over Framingham State.

Sydney Iannantuono, Simmons (First Year, OH - East Lyme, Conn.) - In two matches and seven sets, the first year averaged 3.00 kills per set to go with 2.57 digs per frame and one total ace. The rookie hit .231 for the week and swung for at least eight kills in both matches. The outside hitter put down eight kills and picked up 13 digs at #15 Johnson & Wales University on October 2. She capped the week with 13 kills on a .263 hitting mark and added five digs and an ace at University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) in four sets on October 5.

Krissy Lloyd, Simmons (Sophomore, MB/RS - Tampa, Fla.) - In two matches, the sophomore averaged 2.79 points per set and 2.57 kills per frame in seven sets over two matches, while owning a stellar .421 hitting percentage and getting up for three total blocks. The right side hitter hit .313 in a six-kill effort at #15 Johnson & Wales University and added a block assist on October 2. The right side hitter put down 12 kills and committed just one attack error as part of a .500 hitting mark at University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on October 5. She also recorded a pair of block assists.

Hannah Fabiano, Suffolk (Jr., OH - Litchfield, N.H.) - Fabiano had a standout week with a 4.00 kps showing on a .237 connection rate to go along with 2.36 dps in a 3-0 week for the Rams. After a slow start against becker with just four aces, three kills and two digs, she picked up the pace in conference contests, piling up a career-high 22 kills to go along with 14 digs and one ace for a double-double effort that led the way in an five-set thrilling win over Emmanuel. To cap off the week, she assembled her second straight double-double of 19 kills and 10 digs to help defeat Colby Sawyer, 3-1, the Rams' first-ever win over the Chargers.
