NEW LONDON, Conn. – Alyssa Thorne's red-hot 14 kills for a .462 attack percentage just weren't enough Friday afternoon, as the Emerson College Women's Volleyball Team fell to Bowdoin College, 3-0, in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament Friday afternoon. EC fell 25-21, 25-16 and 25-20 to finish their season with a 19-11 record as Bowdoin improves to 27-4.

Set one saw the Lions put together a gritty effort against the Polar Bears who took off with a 5-1 lead before some clutch serving by Alex Lynn brought them to a 7-5 lead. Battling off 10 tie scores and six lead changes though, the Lions were just barely outhit by Bowdoin with Christy Jewett leading the way with seven kills for Bowdoin.

For EC, Thorne continued her postseason tear as she floored five for the Lions for a nasty .556 average as she kept pounding the line to keep Emerson in the fight. While the Lions out-blocked their icy friends, Bowdoin finally took off with a 25-21 win.

Set two saw Bowdoin pull out to an early lead again, only to see Emerson again scrap back into the match, this time with Bowdoin spreading the offense more. The Polar Bears held more of a vise grip on the lead this time around as they never relinquished it with Ellie Brennan leading BC with four kills. Alyssa Thorne matched that with four of her own to power the Lions, but EC couldn't hold them off in a 25-16 loss.

With their backs against the wall, the Lions still never called it quits as they surged back in the third set to force five tie scores and a lead change in the set. Thorne was the fire in the Lions belly again with five kills for a .556 average as nearly everything she swung at was floored or rocked the Polar Bears in trying to keep it in play.

Bowdoin was tough though as they kept the Lions guessing with four Bears flooring multiple kills in the set while posting a block on EC. Even as EC battled back from a 16-8 deficit to push Bowdoin in the end, Emerson just couldn't hold off in a 25-20 final.

The match closes the Emerson Women's Volleyball Team's 2012 campaign. They would like to thank their families, fans and friends for all their support in an amazing season.
