GNAC Women's Tennis Report: Week 6

( FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 3 - 9 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Alyssa Owens, Colby-Sawyer (Jr. - Grain Valley, Mo.) - Owens jumped into the #1 singles spot and produced big for the Chargers winning 6-1, 6-0 at Regis, before winning 6-0, 6-0 versus Simmons to help clinch the #1 seed. Owens also was 2-0 in #1 doubles this week pairing with senior Emily Hill.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Annabelle Halloran, Simmons (Fy. - Mill Valley, Calif. ) - Halloran went 1-0 on the week, earning the Sharks lone victory against the GNAC Tournament top seed Colby-Sawyer on Saturday afternoon. She paired with fellow teammate Libby Weed defeat the Chargers second doubles tandem of Isabella Gutierrez and Lily Tria, 8-7. 

 

WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
 
Nora Connor, Regis (Jr. - Peabody, Mass.) - In her first season playing collegiate tennis, Connor has solidified the Regis lineup, including over the past week. Thursday against Lesley, she teamed with Harmony Lopez to win at #3 doubles, 8-2, followed by a straight-set win (6-2, 6-1) over Hillary Berry at #6 singles. Saturday, she won the final point of the match over USJ at #5 singles with a straight-set win (6-3, 6-2) over Julia Michaud. Connor is now 6-3 in singles and 5-2 in doubles for the season. 
 
Harmony Lopez, Regis (So. - Carlsbad, N.M.) - Lopez helped Regis to a 2-1 record last week to clinch the second seed and a first round bye in the GNAC Tournament. Thursday, she teamed with Nora Connor at #3 doubles for an 8-2 win, followed by a straight set victory at #5 singles over Lesley's Jordan Blair. Friday, Lopez played the most competitive matches in both singles and doubles against Colby-Sawyer, including a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Isabella Gutierrez at #3 singles. Saturday at USJ, after teaming with Samantha Gevry and prevailing in a tiebreaker at #2 doubles, she clinched the overall contest for the Pride with a straight-set win (6-2, 6-2) over Ananya Srivatsav at #4 singles. 
 
Libby Weed, Simmons (Sr. - Brooksville, Maine) - Weed registered a 1-1 record against top-seed Colby-Sawyer this past week. Weed paired with first-year Annabelle Halloran to pick up the Sharks lone victory on the day on Saturday, edging out the Chargers second doubles tandem, 8-7.
