GNAC Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week Report #1

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Madison Sanborn, Johnson & Wales (Sr., D)

Senior Madison Sanborn powered Johnson & Wales to a pair of 1-1 draws this week against two strong regional opponents. She scored the equalizer in both contests. First on Friday (Sept. 1), Sanborn found the back of the net 17 minutes into the second half against Babson to even the score. Then on Sunday (Sept. 3), she scored with just 10 minutes remaining on the road against Western Connecticut to pull out the draw.  Both tallies were her only shots on-goal for the week.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Stephanie Bronowicki, New England College (So., GK)

Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Bronowicki picked right off where she left off in her 2022 rookie campaign, willing New England College to a 0-0 draw to open its season. Bronowicki was a huge reason why the Pilgrims were able to salvage the result as she made 15 saves in the contest.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Emily Basua, Elms (Fr., F)

First-year forward Emily Basua was responsible for more than half of Elms’ scoring output on its opening weekend. First, she scored her team’s only goal on Friday (Sept. 1) as the Blazers fell to Suffolk, 2-1, in their opener. They were able to get in the win column two days later with a 4-0 victory over SUNY Canton. Basua had her first-career multi-goal game in that contest, scoring a pair in the win.
