JWU Claims Final Spot in GNAC Women’s Soccer Semifinals

GNAC WOMEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

WINTHROP, Mass. – Johnson & Wales picked up a 5-0 win in the final match of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Soccer Quarterfinals to claim the last spot in the 2023 GNAC Women's Soccer Semifinals, which are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 1.

Both semifinal matches on Wednesday are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. with top-seeded JWU hosting No. 4 seed Colby-Sawyer and No. 2 seed Emmanuel hosting No. 3 seed Lasell.

The two semifinal winners will then meet for the 2023 GNAC Women's Soccer Championship match on Saturday, Nov. 4. The team that takes the conference crown will earn the league's automatic qualifier into the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The top-seeded JWU-Providence women's soccer team advanced to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Semifinals with a 5-0 win over No. 9 Elms College Sunday evening at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

A trio of freshmen – Jessica LeeSophia Warburton, and Grace Sheehan – scored first-half goals for the Wildcats, who will meet No. 4 Colby-Sawyer College Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Junior Emily DeRoehn and sophomore MacKenna Renaud added insurance markers in the second half.

Lee opened the scoring with an upper 90 goal on a free kick 12 minutes into the match. Just 50 seconds later, Warburton knocked in her own rebound to double the JWU lead. Sheehan netted the third goal following a cross from freshman Cloey Dias at 33:42 to make it 3-0 after 45 minutes.

Lee collected an assist 13 minutes into the second half when her corner kick was headed in by DeRoehn.

Juniors Carly McCrumb and Leah Bragaw each played one half in goal and combined to make one save. JWU finished the match with a 30-1 edge in shots.
