GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 9

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Pam Gonzalez, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., G - Revere, Mass.) - Gonzalez played a significant role in a 1-1 week for the Pride, averaging 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals while shooting 44.8% (13-29) overall and 40.0% from three-point territory (4-10). Playing all 40 minutes on Wednesday against Emmanuel, she scored 21 of her 23 points in the second half, pulling down 15 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season, tied for most in the GNAC. She also chipped in three assists, four steals and a block against the Saints. On Saturday against Dean, she was needed for just 13 minutes on the court, collecting 12 points, four rebounds, two assists, and five steals against Dean. She has now reached double figures in scoring in nine straight.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Shirle Major, Lasell (Freshman, G - Worcester, Mass.) - Major averaged 24.5 points and 6.5 rebounds over two games last week, including a career-high 34 points against JWU on 12-of-16 shooting, plus 8-of-10 from the FT line. She also posted 15 points, six rebounds and four assists in a setback against GNAC powerhouse Albertus Magnus.


GNAC HONOR ROLL

Diamond White, Albertus Magnus (So., G - Hamden, Conn.) - White led the way for Albertus over a pair of wins this past week, as she averaged 18.0 points and 3.0 rebounds, while shooting 14-for-28 (50.0%) from the floor, 3-for-7 (42.9%) from 3-point range, and 5-for-7 (71.4%) from the line. The sophomore guard opened the week with 15 points, two boards, and a steal in a hard-fought 59-54 home win for AMC over USJ on Wednesday. White then posted a season-high 21 points with four rebounds, two assists, and a steal to help the Falcons secure an 86-66 victory over Lasell on Saturday. 

Marissa Holt, Colby-Sawyer (So, G - Alfred, Maine) - Holt had the best week of her collegiate career, averaging 21.5 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 53.3% (16-30 FG, 6-10 3PT, 5-6 FT) overall in two GNAC contests. She started the week with a career-high 22 points on 9-16 shooting in a 56-37 win against Elms, before following that up with 21 points in a 49-48 loss to GNAC powerhouse Emmanuel.

Kayla Jackson, Elms (First Year, F - Saugus, Mass.) - Jackson averaged 13.5 points and 8.0 boards in just 24.5 minutes per game for the Blazers, highlighted by a 21-point, nine-rebound performance against Rivier. 

Kiera Eubanks, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, F - Portland, Maine) - Eubanks played a key role in both EC wins last week, averaging 9.0 points, 16.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. The junior posted a double-double in a road win over Regis with 11 points and a career-high 20 rebounds, before a seven-point, 12-rebound outing in a come-from-behind victory at Colby-Sawyer over the weekend. 

Haley Brewster, Norwich (So, G - Virginia Beach, Va.) - Brewster averaged 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week for Norwich, first opening the two-game stretch with a 14-point showing against reigning GNAC runners-up Saint Joseph's before pouring in 20 points to lead the Cadets to a crucial conference win over JWU.

Hannah Muchemore, Rivier (Jr., G - Nashua, N.H.) - Muchemore averaged 24.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals in a 1-1 week for the Raiders. After 25 points and seven boards in a road loss to Anna Maria, she shot 10-of-15 for 23 points to go with four rebounds and six steals in a 81-64 victory over Elms.

Elisabeth Stapelfeld, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Freshman, G - Brookline, N.H.) - Stapelfeld averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while shooting 47.6% (10-21) from the floor and 83.3% (5-6) from the FT line in a pair of GNAC road wins last week. The freshman guard netted 12 points with six boards and two assists in a 71-53 win at Norwich on Wednesday and added 14 points and four caroms in a close 65-60 victory at USJ on Saturday.
