GNAC Softball Report: Week 3

( FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 13 - 19 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jordyn Rubin, Simmons (Junior, OF - Lewiston, Maine) - Rubin posted a staggering 2.000 OPS (.625/.625/.1.375) from the middle of the Shark lineup to lead Simmons to the sweep over Wellesley on Friday afternoon. In a 6-3 victory in game one, Rubin went 3-for-4 with a pair of triples  and two RBI, then nearly duplicated that performance in a 10-2 win in game two, going 2-for-4 with her third triple of the day and another two RBI. 
 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Eryn Sheeley, Lasell (Junior, P/1B - North Haven, Conn.) - Sheeley posted a 3-2 record with one save and three complete games in the circle last week, posting a 3.06 ERA for the Lasers. She struck out 38 across 32.0 innings pitched spanning five appearances, and she posted an ERA of 2.33 or lower in four of the five games. 
 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Piper Kinney, Simmons (First Year, P - Marlborough, Mass.) - Making her second career start, the first-year right-hander earned her first collegiate career win guiding Simmons to a sweep of Wellesley in a 10-2 game two win on Friday afternoon. The central Mass. native tossed a (five-inning) complete-game, allowing two unearned runs, while scattering five hits and striking out one opposing batter. 

HONOR ROLL

Angelina Ramada, Albertus Magnus (Sr., OF - North Branford, Conn.) - Ramada was outstanding as the Falcons went 2-5 last week, going 10-for-23 (.453) at the plate with five RBIs, three runs scored, and one stolen base. The senior outfielder recorded a slash line of .435/.435/.435 over her eight contests, with the highlight of Ramada's week coming against Me.-Presque Isle, when she went 4-for-5 to tally four RBIs, one run scored, and a stolen base. 
 
Jill Pulek, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Gr., IF - Cheshire, Conn.) - Pulek batted .500 (8-16) with three doubles and three RBI for the Wildcats, who went 2-2 last week. She went 3-for-7 with a pair of doubles in a DH split at UMass Dartmouth on Friday before picking up three RBI on Saturday against WPI, which advanced to the CWS last season. In a 16-5 win against the Engineers in game two, Pulek went 4-for-5 with a run-scoring single and double, and also scored twice. She owns a .538 average this far in 2023 to go with two home runs and 10 RBI.
 
Katie Hopkins, Lasell (Junior, 3B - Garden City Park, N.Y.) - Hopkins led the Lasers in an eight-game week, going 14-for-26 (.528) with six runs scored, three doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI en route to a 1.418 OPS. The junior third baseman hit safely in each game, as Lasell posted a 4-4 mark.
