GNAC Softball Report: Week 6

PLAYER / ROOKIE of the WEEK

Tianna Dawe, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, P/OF - Lynn, Mass.) - Dawe put together an incredible afternoon in a pair of Emmanuel wins over Dean, batting .714 (5-for-7) with three home runs, six RBI and five runs scored. On top of slugging 2.143 in the GNAC sweeps, the Lynn, Mass. native added two stolen bases and pitched three scoreless innings with seven strikeouts to earn the Game 2 victory, allowing just two hits to improve to 7-2 on the season.

PITCHER of the WEEK

Natalie Amato, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Jr., P - Cheshire, Conn.) - Amato posted a 0.00 ERA and 3-0 record with three complete games, allowing just one unearned run, 12 hits, and five walks over 21 innings inside the circle for USJ while striking out 19. After surrendering a solo home run to the very first batter she faced in the 2021 season opener back on March 27, Amato has not given up an earned run since, running her consecutive innings pitched streak to 34. She currently leads the GNAC and is tied for fifth in the nation in ERA with a minuscule 0.20 ERA. The 5-8 junior from Cheshire opened the week firing a three-hitter versus Albertus Magnus, striking out five in a 6-0 USJ victory on Tuesday at home. She then went to Johnson & Wales and whiffed seven on Thursday in an 8-1 game two triumph over the Wildcats before coming back home on Saturday to baffle Albertus Magnus once again, fanning seven in another complete game three-hitter and 4-0 USJ win.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Laura Anderson, Albertus Magnus (Sr., P - East Haven, Conn.) - Anderson tallied eight hits, three doubles, four runs, and five RBIs to go along with a .381/.409/.524 slash line at the plate during a 4-2 week for the Falcons. The senior utility player shined brightest in Albertus' 8-0 victory over Lasell on April 23, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a career-high tying three doubles. Anderson pulled double duty for the week, also picking up three complete-game wins on the pitching mound with 13 strikeouts.

Megan Long, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, P/OF - Greenville, R.I.) - Long continued her dominance in the pitching circle earning her eighth consecutive victory for the Saints in their 11-1 win over Dean. The senior allowed just one run on two hits over five innings of work while striking out a career-high 12 batters in the complete-game win, holding the Bulldogs to a .118 batting average on the day.

Hailey Erickson, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fy., IF - Calimesa, Calif.) - Erickson went 2-for-3 in her two starts on the week for the Wildcats which included a five inning victory over USJ. In the conference win she knocked in a pair of runs and scored twice while hitting a double. In a 5-2 loss to undefeated Brandeis, she hit her first career homerun along with a double while knocking in two runs. She was perfect defensively at first base in her two starts, recording 11 putouts in the two starts.
