GNAC Softball Report: Week 1

( FOR THE SEASON'S OPENING PERIOD )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Ellery Rasmussen, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., 3B/1B - Kingston, N.H.)

Rasmussen earned at least one hit in all eight games during the Pride's Spring Break trip (3-5) to Fla. over the past week. In the season-opener against St. Vincent, she went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI. She drove in two runs per game in each of Regis' next four as she finished the week with 14 RBI. She hit a home run in each of the team's games last Wednesday, including in the Pride's 4-0 victory over Rosemont. In the trip finale against Rose-Hulman, she went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored, including the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh as she started the two-out rally with a single. 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Kristin Frost, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., UTL - Pearl City, Hawaii)

Along with slashing .458/.552/.625 and collecting eight runs and five RBI at the plate, Frost posted a 3-0 record with a 2.10 ERA in the circle as JWU began the season 3-5 overall. She struck out 26 and walked just six across 16.2 innings (10.82 K/7) spanning four appearances (three starts). She had 10 strikeouts against both Bluffton and Husson as she blanked each team.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Alexa White, Suffolk (Fr., P - Taunton, Mass.)

White picked up her first collegiate win with a three-hit, one-walk, eight-hit, complete-game shutout over Alfred, where she contributed at the plate as well with a pair of sac bunts, one of which aided to the game-tying run. For the week on the mound, she had a miniscule 1.08 ERA while striking out 12 (one walk) in 13.0 innings across three appearances (two starts).


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Laura Anderson, Albertus Magnus (Sr., P - East Haven, Conn.) - Anderson and the Falcons opened the 2020 season with a pair of wins at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The senior tallied two hits in the doubleheader, one being a two-run homer and the other being an RBI double. Over the two games, she posted a stellar slash line of .333/.429/1.000 with a team-high tying four RBI.

Tianna Dawe, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Fr, P/OF - Lynn, Mass.) - For the week, the rookie posted a 2.63 ERA with 9 Ks and only three walks in 8 IP (7.88 K/7), while holding opposing hitters to a .120 average (3-25). Dawe opened her collegiate career with 7.1 scoreless innings over two games, including 4.1 innings of relief to earn the win in Emmanuel's 6-5 victory over Lesley. The first-year hurler allowed just one hit while striking out six including the side in the seventh to preserve the 6-5 win and become the first EC rookie to win their Emmanuel debut since 2016. 

Devin Scales, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., C/IF - Mount Airy, Md.) - Hit .455 (10-22) with a .727 slugging percentage and .520 OBP (1.247 OPS) to go with 13 RBI and four runs scored in a 3-4 week. He drove in four runs against NEC in a 13-3 win on March 4 and hit safely in her last six games, including four multi-hit games.

Meranda Martin, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (JR, CF - Richmond, Maine) - Martin enjoyed a fine first week as a Monk by hitting .429 (12-28) with seven runs, four RBI and nine stolen bases in as many attempts in 10 contests in Clermont, Florida. She finished the trip riding a seven-game hitting streak and notched two hits in five different contests.

Christie Bott, Simmons (Junior, C - Seaford, N.Y.) - In two games, the junior batted .429 to go with a .500 on-base percentage and a 1.143 slugging mark to contribute to a 1.643 OPS. The catcher set a school record with five runs scored and added a pair of doubles, a grand slam and was intentionally walked vs. Penn. St.-Berks on March 8. 

Lauren Del Vacchio, Simmons (Senior, OF/2B - Murrita, Calif.) - In a 1-1 showing, the senior batted .667 (6-9) and posted a .800 on-base percentage to go with three runs batted in, two runs scored and was hit by a pitch from the leadoff spot. The outfielder registered at least two hits in both games and began the week by going 4-5 with three RBI and two runs scored vs. Penn. St.-Berks on March 8. Del Vacchio closed the week by going 2-4 vs. Defiance on March 8.
