Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Report - Week 7

Player of the Week
Noel Byers (Iron Mountain, Mich.), Senior, Second Baseman, Norwich University
As the lone senior on the NU softball team this season, Byers had a memorable final week of the regular season by registering a hit in all eight games played on the week, including at least two hits in six of the games. She went 14-for-26 overall with 11 runs scored. Byers also played an integral role in helping NU sweep Emerson for the first-time ever with the go-ahead two-RBI hit to lift the Cadets to a 6-5 lead in the first game and then a game-tying two-run home run in Game 2 before the Cadets won in a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh. Sunday's victories were the first time NU had beaten Emerson in Byers' four years on the team.

Pitcher of the Week
Taylor Cwalinski (Jackson, N.J.), Junior, Pitcher/Second Baseman, Johnson & Wales University
Cwalinski posted a 3-1 record with a 0.23 ERA and 44 strikeouts over 30.2 innings of work to help the Wildcats to a 5-3 record on the week, including four GNAC wins. The junior notched the complete-game shutout with nine strikeouts in the 1-0 win over Emmanuel. She also had a complete-game win with 13 strikeouts against Anna Maria.

Rookie of the Week
Mary Sciglimpaglia (Norwalk, Conn.), Freshman, Catcher/Infielder, St. Joseph (Conn.)
Mary batted .520 (13-for-25) on the week with nine RBI as the Blue Jays finished the regular-season 9-1 and set a school record for wins in a season (30). Mary had five doubles, a triple, a homer and slugged .920. Also from the catcher position, she threw out four of eight runners trying to steal and had a pickoff.
