GNAC Softball Weekly Honors: April 12, 2011

Ashley Carusone (Pine Manor), Courteney Collier (Simmons) and Annie Thompson (Simmons) have earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Softball Weekly Honors.

 

 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Annie Thompson, Simmons, Sr., Pacific Palisades, CA

Simmons’ senior, Annie Thompson, helped her team to a 6-0 weekend and a top place ranking in the conference by registering a .700 (14-20) batting average. Thompson collected 8 RBI, 10 runs scored and a .750 OBP in three GNAC double-headers. She accrued a 1.200 slugging percentage, where she had two home runs, a triple, and a double on the weekend. As starting shortstop in all 6 games, she only committed one error. This marks the third consecutive week that Thompson has earned GNAC Player of the Week honors.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Ashley Carusone, Pine Manor, Fr., Nashua, NH

Pine Manor freshman, Ashley Carusone, batted a remarkable .500 over the week, while hitting two home runs over the weekend including a game-winner. Carusone went 5-6 with a 1.000 OBP in the GNAC double-header against Suffolk on Saturday and concluded the weekend with a two-run walk-off home run against Mount Ida. Carusone also showed off her defensive range making several impressive plays at short while helping the Gators to improve to 6-4 in conference play.

 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Courteney Collier, Simmons, Sr., Bolton, MA

Simmons’ senior, Courteney Collier, accomplished a 3-0 record on the weekend with a 0.44 ERA. She pitched 16 innings and gave up only seven hits and one earned run while striking out 27 batters. Collier held opponents to a 0.127 batting average as the Sharks went an undefeated 6-0 on the weekend against Mount Ida, Emerson and Albertus Magnus. Collier’s top performance came against previously undefeated Emerson in a 2-0 win, where Collier also had a solo game-winning home run and shutout. Offensively, Collier batted .500 on the weekend with a 0.714 slugging percentage. Collier has been named a two-time GNAC Pitcher of the Week this season.
