GNAC Indoor Track & Field Report: Week 3

( FOR THE WEEK OF JAN. 6 - 12 )

MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

JJ Pedersen, Regis (Sr., Milford, Conn.)

For the second time in as many meets this season, Pedersen broke a school record for the Pride. In the first running event of Brandeis' Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational, Pedersen broke the school record in the 3000 meter run, finishing in third place with a time of 9:14.74. His mark was over 15 seconds faster than the previous standard set in February 2018. He now owns the indoor school records in the 3000 meter run and 5000 meter run.

WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Emily Manfra, Suffolk (Sr., Stoneham, Mass.)

As the only NCAA Division III athlete to compete at the Beantown Challenge, Manfra made her presence known in the 3000 meter with a third-place finish with a time of 10:03.2, the fourth-best time in DIII this season. The field features runners from Boston College, UMass Amherst, UConn, Holy Cross, UMass Lowell and Stonehill.

MEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Simon Vinci, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Fr., Peabody, Mass.)

In Friday's Dartmouth Relays, Vinci broke the team's Weight Throw record with a 13.20m effort, good for ninth overall, and placed seventh in the Shot Put (13.99m).

 

WOMEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Teague Tallo, Emmanuel (Fr., Lincoln, R.I.)

Tallo enjoyed a strong performance in the throwing events for Emmanuel, finishing 10th overall in the weight throw with a toss of 11.96m (39'3'') and 12th in the shot put with a throw of 8.9m (29'2.5"), both new personal records.


WEEK 3 HONOR ROLL

Luke Elson, Emmanuel (Jr., Ashaway, R.I.) - Elson raced to a sixth-place finish in both the 200m and 400m dash events with times of 24.59 and 55.63. Both times were new PR's for the junior sprinter.

Amanda Jordan, Emmanuel (So., Stoneham, Mass.) - Jordan posted a pair of individual PR's at the Bowdoin College Invitational, finishing second overall in the high jump with a leap of 1.51m (4'11.50") while finish sixth in the 600m race, clocking in at 1:50.92 for a ninth place finish. She also ran the first leg on the Saints 4x400 relay which finished fourth overall with a time of 4:39.58

Elisabeth Cooke, Regis (Sr., East Longmeadow, Mass.) - At the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational at Brandeis Saturday, Elisabeth Cooke led the Pride in the throwing events, finishing sixth in the shot put with a top mark of 10.56 meters (34' 7.75") and eighth in the weight throw with a top effort of 11.47 meters (37' 7.75"). Cooke notched both marks on her first attempt of each event's finals. Among Division III competitors only, Cooke was fourth in the shot put and fourth in the weight throw.
