Chargers Advance to GNAC Championship; Face Eastern Nazarene for Title

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team is moving onto the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship after defeating the University of Saint Joseph by a 5-0 margin. 

Rapid Recap:

  • Colby-Sawyer took a quick 3-0 led in doubles action with the best performance coming from the number three pairing of junior Cohl Schusler (Bradford, N.H.) and first year Peyton Meuse (Newport, N.H.) winning by a 8-2 margin.  Senior Kham Savatdy (Woonsocket, R.I.) and first year Ashton Meuse (Newport, N.H.) followed soon after winning the number two slot by a 8-4 margin before sophomore Aidan Jensen (Essex, Vt.) and first year Zsombor Homonnay (Dunakeszi, Hungary) battled for the third point winning 8-5. 
  • In singles action, the twins closed things out quickly winning number three and four singles without much of a fight. A. Meuse picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win in the third singles spot before P. Meuse picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win to close things out. 

Athlete Spotlight:
"The pressure was on us today and the men came to play", said head coach Barry Schoonmaker. "We fought through some early nerves. Ashton and Peyton were all business, winning decisively. So proud of the crew and ready for the Championship."

The Chargers will take on Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday April 29th in the GNAC Championship in Quincy, Mass.
