BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) champion Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament with a 5-0 loss at No. 8 nationally-ranked Bowdoin Friday.

The Lions finish the campaign with a 17-8 overall record while the Polar Bears improve to 17-4 on the season and advance to the NCAA Tournament third round for the sixth-consecutive year.

The hosts rattled off three doubles victories to establish a 3-0 lead.

Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) fell to Luke Carstens and Grant Urken 8-0 at the No. 1 doubles position.

Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Tim Schoengens (Inden, Germany) dropped an 8-3 decision at the second spot to Justin Wang and Evan Fortier.

Alberto Escobar (Sevilla, Spain) and Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) suffered an 8-2 setback at the No. 3 slot to Justin Patel and Oscar Yang.

Bowdon collected a pair of singles wins to clinch the match.

Schoengens endured a 6-0, 6-0 loss at the No. 5 singles position to Carstens while Pierson fell at the sixth spot to Alan Delman 6-1, 6-0.

When the match reached decision, Siercke and Escobar trailed in their second sets after both dropped the first frames. Rodriguez was knotted at 1-1 in the second after conceding the first set while Opaschowski trailed 5-2 in the opening set.
