North Division winner will
host GNAC Championship on May 4
WINTHROP, Mass. – Associate members Eastern Nazarene College and Ramapo College have earned the top seeds in their respective divisions entering the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament, with the GNAC's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament on the line.
Eastern Nazarene, the top seed in the North Division with a 5-0 mark, will host No. 2 North seed Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday, April 27, while top South Division seed Ramapo College will host No. 2 South seed Albertus Magnus College.
Both semifinal matches are scheduled for 1:00 PM. The North winner will host the GNAC Championship on Saturday, May 4, as divisional host duties alternate annually.
Ramapo, which has captured the last six GNAC titles, went 3-0 in South Division action, while Albertus bested both Rutgers-Camden and Rutgers-Newark in regular-season action to earn its first-ever trip to the GNAC Men's Tennis Semifinals.
In the North Division amidst its first year as a GNAC associate member, Eastern Nazarene amazingly dropped only one of its 45 individual matches in GNAC play, which came in an 8-1 loss to first-year GNAC core member Colby-Sawyer back on March 30. Meanwhile, Colby-Sawyer catapulted its way into the GNAC playoffs with a crucial 7-2 home victory over Johnson & Wales University (RI) on Saturday afternoon in the regular-season finale.
The 2018-19 academic year will mark the final season that New Jersey schools Ramapo, Rutgers-Camden and Rutgers-Newark will compete in the GNAC, as they transition towards a full NJAC schedule. Eastern Nazarene will continue as a GNAC associate member in both men's and women's tennis.
The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 13 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Founded in 1995, the GNAC annually sponsors and administers 20 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunity and community involvement in an effort to enhance the student-athlete experience.
