GNAC Champion USJ Opens 2024 NCAA DIII Men’s Lacrosse Championship at Home

INDIANAPOLIS – 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Lacrosse Champion the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) will make its NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship debut at home as it hosts one of the six First Round games on Wednesday, May 8. USJ will host SUNY Poly in the opening round.

The Blue Jays were one of 38 teams selected into this year’s field, which was announced on Sunday (May 5) evening during the NCAA.com Selection Show. USJ is also one of 27 tournament participants that earned its championship berth by winning its conference’s automatic qualifier. The rest of the championship was selected at-large.

The GNAC Champions carry a 16-3 overall (9-1 GNAC) record into this year’s national competition. They were the No. 1 seed in the GNAC South Division. It wasn’t an easy journey through the tournament for the Blue Jays however as all three postseason victories came by just a single goal. They bested No. 4 -North seed Emmanuel, 10-9, in the quarterfinals, No. 3 South seed Lasell, 7-6, in the semifinals, and No. 2 South seed Dean, 13-12, in the championship.

SUNY Poly was also an automatic qualifier coming out of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). The Wildcats were 10-6 (6-2 NAC) overall this year and entered the NAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed. They defeated No. 2 seed SUNY Morrisville 12-9 in the semifinals before besting No. 1 seed Maine Maritime 18-8 in the final.

Following the First Round games, the tournament will continue with Second and Third Round games at 16 campus sites on Saturday and Sunday, May 11 and 12. The winners coming out of those 16 sites will advance to the quarterfinals and semifinals, which will take place on campus sites on Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19.

This year’s finalists will compete for the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Penn. on Sunday, May 26. The Division I Semifinals and Championship and the Division II Championship will be held at the same site.
