GNAC Men's Lacrosse Report: Week 8

( FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 17 - APRIL 23 )

 

PLAYER/ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Alex Johnston, Norwich (Fr., M - Franklin, Tenn.) - Posted an incredible seven points in Norwich's stunning 10-9 upset over Lasell in a GNAC Championship rematch to open up the week. Ripped in five goals while dishing out two assists against the Lasers with two of his goals coming on man-up opportunities. Also forced one turnover, while scooping up three ground balls. Then scored a team-best three goals while logging two ground balls against Saint Joseph. Finished the week with 10 points on eight goals and two helpers.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Trey McCann, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., GK - Simsbury, Conn.) - Guided the Blue Jays to a 2-0 week, securing a spot in the upcoming GNAC playoffs for the Blue Jays. Started the week by making 14 saves in an 11-9 upset victory against Johnson & Wales. Concluded the week by allowing only six goals while making 11 saves in an 8-6 victory at Norwich, which saw the Blue Jays clinch a berth in the postseason.

   

WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Diego Alvarez-Segee, Dean (Jr., - Saugus, Mass.) - Led the Bulldogs in a 1-1 week with 11 points on nine goals and two assists. Tallied two of the team's five goals in a tough 8-5 loss to Rivier before ending the week with a game best nine points in a 13-6 road win at Anna Maria. Added seven ground balls for the week as well.

Randy Castle, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr., GK - Boxford, Mass.) - Posted a 4.64 goals against average over 90+ minutes of work in net for the Saints, making 31 saves while recording an 81.6 save percentage. Registered a season-high 25 saves in a GNAC showdown vs. Lasell and also shutout Albertus Magnus in the first half of a 14-2 road win, making six stops for Emmanuel.

Sawyer Gagnon, Rivier (Jr., G - Gorham, Maine) - Helped the team keep the lead with a 13-save performance. Saw 18 shots on goal allowing just five goals with a 72.2 save percentage.

Brannon Gilbert, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Sr., G - Gray, Maine) - Posted a 5.98 GAA with a 64.3 save percentage in a pair of Saint Joseph's victories last week. Made seven stops and allowed two goals over 40:24 against Anna Maria on Tuesday and turned away 11 shots while yielding eight goals in an important win over Johnson & Wales on Friday.

James Rollins, Dean (Sr., GK - Old Lyme, Conn.) - Went 1-1 in goal last week with a 7.00 GAA and a 64.1 save percentage. Kept the Bulldogs in the game in a tough 8-5 loss to Rivier with 10 saves. Picked up a win to end the week with six goals allowed and 15 saves in a road victory at Anna Maria.
