GNAC Men's Lacrosse Report: Week 3

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Payden Masaracchia, Norwich (Sr., A - Enola, Pa.) - Masaracchia paced the Norwich offense with 13 goals and an assist while shooting 69.6 percent in a pair of conference wins this week. The senior attackman tallied four goals and an assist in a win over Rivier on Wednesday before exploding for a career-high nine goals in a victory over St. Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday. He scored six of the team's last seven goals against the Blue Jays which helped the Cadets transform a 7-5 lead into a 14-5 advantage. Masaracchia also picked up eight groundballs and caused a turnover. 

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Dane Walsh, Albertus Magnus (Jr., GK - Bethany, Conn.) - Walsh continued his outstanding junior season by making a career-best 24 saves against St. Joseph (Conn.) on March 30. The Bethany, Conn., native stood on his head to keep Albertus close against the Blue Jays, withstanding a whopping 73 shots (37 on goal) to keep the Falcons within nine goals. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Adam Enscoe, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Freshman, FO - Rochester, N.H.) - Enscoe led the Monks to two GNAC wins by winning 74.2% (23-31) of his face-off attempts last week. The freshman face-off midi won 14 of 15 bids in a triumph over Anna Maria on Tuesday and was 9-for-16 against Johnson & Wales on Saturday.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Ryan Castle, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, A - Boxford, Mass.) - Castle paced the Saints offensive unit with seven points on six goals and one assist over two GNAC contests. The sophomore netted two goals while adding four groundballs vs. Lasell on the road before closing out the week with five points at home vs. Rivier. Castle scored a game-high four goals while adding one assists, three caused turnover and two groundballs against the Raiders.

Chase Kapuscienski, Lasell (Gr., M - Grafton, Mass.) - Kapuscienski totaled six goals, including three in each game, as Lasell finished with a 1-1 record for the week. He tallied three goals and one ground ball in last Tuesday's 14-7 league win over GNAC foe Emmanuel, and scored three times with two ground balls in Saturday's non-conference loss at Connecticut College.

Nick Kandra, Norwich (Sr., G - Crofton, Md.) - Kandra picked up both of the Cadets' wins by posting a 7.11 goals-against-average (GAA) and a 50.0 save percentage in a 2-0 week in conference matchups. The GNAC leader in GAA gave up eight goals while stopping six shots in a win over Rivier and then stymied USJ allowing just two goals while making four saves in the team's second victory of the week. 

Trey McCann, St. Joseph (Conn.) (So., GK - Simsbury, Conn.) - McCann had another solid week between the pipes for USJ, totaling 24 saves on the week with a 60.0 save percentage. He allowed in just 16 goals and finished the week with a 9.12 goals allowed average in 105 minutes of action. On Tuesday versus intrastate foe Albertus Magnus, McCann allowed just three goals and finished with ten saves to earn the win in what was an eventual 13-4 USJ victory. The Simsbury, Conn. product then followed that up with 14 more saves on Saturday versus the defending GNAC Champs Norwich University in 50 minutes of action and gave the Blue Jays a fighting chance before falling late to the Cadets, 14-7. 

Noah Mocksfield, St. Joseph (Conn.) (So., A - Colchester, Conn.) - Mocksfield helped lead the Blue Jays to another 1-1 week as he had a five-point week, finding the back of the cage four times and dished out an assist. He also collected six ground balls. 

Michael Janocha, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Junior, G - Southampton, Mass.) - Janocha posted a 5.96 goals against average and a 60.0% save percentage in 80:32 minutes of action in two GNAC wins last week. The junior netminder made five saves with three goals allowed in 30 minutes versus Anna Maria on Tuesday and added seven saves, with five goals yielded, in 50"32 minutes against Johnson & Wales on Saturday.

Max Lacy, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Sophomore, A - Salisbury, N.H.) - Lacy helped lead the Monks to a pair of conference victories last week with nine goals and an assist along with six ground balls. The sophomore attack netted five goals with five ground balls in a 19-10 win over Anna Maria on Tuesday and produced four goals and an assist in a 16-8 triumph at Johnson & Wales on Saturday.
