MLAX SEMIFINALS: JWU Upsets Lasell, Norwich Handles SJC to Set Stage for Saturday's GNAC Championship

NEWTON, Mass. –
 Eric Russo's goal 2:09 into the overtime period lifted the Johnson & Wales University men's lacrosse team to its first GNAC Championship game. The sixth-seeded Wildcats defeated the number two seed Lasell, 11-10, on Wednesday

Records:
Lasell: 9-7
Johnson & Wales: 8-11

Of Note:
The Wildcats will face the winner of the Norwich-Saint Joseph's game on Saturday.

Johnson & Wales hopped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter with four different players finding the back of the net. Russo and Thomas Lyons scored in the second quarter to send JWU into the half with a 7-6 advantage.  

Ben Farrell's third goal of the game put the Wildcats up 9-6 midway through the third quarter. The Lasers answered with three-straight goals to even the game at 9-9 going into the fourth quarter.

Lyons scored seven minutes into the fourth quarter to regain the lead, but Lasell tied it with 21 seconds left in regulation.

Each team turned the ball over in the extra period before Russo scored the game-winner, his 40th of the year.

Coming up big was JWU goalkeeper Bradley Morris as he made 15 saves. The Lasers won 18 of 25 faceoffs and had a 30-23 advantage in ground balls.

Up Next:
During the regular season, Johnson & Wales defeated Norwich in overtime for the Cadets' only loss in GNAC regular-season play.

#1 Norwich 17, #4 Saint Joseph's 8
NORTHFIELD, Vt. – For Norwich, Cody Moore led the way with a six-goal effort, while Ian Kennedy had two goals and four assists as the Cadets rolled to a 17-8 victory over Saint Joseph's of Maine on Wednesday night. As a result, they will host JWU at 1:00 PM on Saturday in the GNAC Championship contest. A full recap will be posted shortly!
