JWU runs GNAC tables with 11-0 mark

WINTHROP, Mass. Defending conference champion Johnson & Wales University (RI) has captured the top seed in the GNAC Field Hockey Tournament for the first time in program history, going an unblemished 11-0 overall in GNAC play while boasting a 16-1 overall record.

Last fall, the Wildcats went on the road to defeat Colby-Sawyer College in the 2021 GNAC Championship contest, earning their first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament berth. A year later, they will open up tournament action this Saturday, October 29 against eighth-seeded University of Saint Joseph (CT) at 12PM noon.

Simmons University is currently 14-2 overall with a 9-2 GNAC mark to cement the No. 2 seed, as the Shars get set to welcome seventh-seeded Anna Maria College this Saturday at 11AM.

Third-seeded Saint Joseph's College of Maine and fourth-seeded Colby-Sawyer College both finished 8-3 in GNAC play, with SJC getting the nod as the third seed following its head-to-head 4-3 overtime victory at CSC two weeks ago.

As a result, the No. 3 Monks will take on sixth-seeded Lasell University this Saturday at 11AM, while the No. 4 Chargers will look to get back to the GNAC Final beginning with a quarterfinal matchup with fifth-seeded Rivier University.

Saint Joseph's of Maine had won four straight GNAC titles from 2016-19 under head coach Rupert Lewis.

There is no reseeding throughout the GNAC Tournament, while the league champion will receive the GNAC's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
