GNAC Field Hockey Report: Week 3

( FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 12 - 18 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Aleah Murph, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, M - Portland, Maine) - The Chargers went 3-0 this past week in part to the play of Murph, who finished the week with 10 points, a pair of game-winners, and a defensive save. Aleah started the week with a dominant performance against recently-announced 2023 incoming GNAC incoming member NEC with a goal, an assist and the defensive save in a 2-1 win. Murph followed it up with two goals and an assist in a 9-1 victory against Dean before ending the week with th game-winner for the Chargers in a 3-2 win against Thomas.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Kassidy Collins, Saint Joseph's of Maine (Sophomore, GK - Gardiner, Maine) - Collins posted a 0.50 GAA with a .933 save percentage while logging nearly 121 minutes in a pair of SJC victories last week. The sophomore keeper made a career-high 14 saves in a 2-1 overtime win over Thomas College on Wednesday.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Maya Waryas, Saint Joseph's of Maine (Freshman, F - Bellows Falls, Vt.) - Waryas netted the game-winning goal in a 2-1 overtime victory over Thomas College on Wednesday.

HONOR ROLL

Lily Stark, Lasell (Junior, F) - As part of a 1-1 week, Stark had two goals and an assist for five points in the Lasers' 8-0 road win over Albertus on Saturday.
 
Zofia Bangs, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fr., F - Stoughton, Mass.) - Bangs scored three goals for the Wildcats, who posted a 2-0 mark last week to remain perfect on the season. She picked up her second marker of the season in Wednesday's shutout of Bridgewater State, then scored twice - including the GWG - in a 3-1 road win at USJ Saturday. 
 
Frankie Alley, Regis (Mass.) (So., F - Gardner, Mass.) - Alley led the Regis offense in two competitive matches (0-2) over the past week. She scored the Pride's first goal early in the fourth quarter against Clark to help the team attempt a rally, leading the team with six total shots. On Thursday night, she scored both goals at UMass Dartmouth, the first one tying the match in the second quarter and the second one pulling the Pride within one with over six minutes left on the clock in the fourth period. 
  
Maya Waryas, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Freshman, F - Bellows Falls, Vt.) - Waryas netted the game-winning goal in a 2-1 overtime victory over Thomas College on Wednesday.
 
Sydney Gonyea, Simmons (Sophomore, F - Lebanon, N.H.) - Gonyea guided Simmons to a 2-0 week, registering a three goals for six points in back-to-back shutouts over non-conference Wheaton and GNAC foe Rivier. Early in the week against Wheaton, she registered the game-winning goal in the 22nd minute of a 1-0 victory. Gonyea closed out the week with a pair of goals in a 4-0 win over Rivier, which snapped a two-game losing streak against the Raiders. Gonyea is currently the nation's leader in points per game and ranked fifth amongst Division III in assists per game in addition to leading the conference in all offensive statistical categories.
