GNAC Field Hockey Report: Week 5

( FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 27 - OCT. 3 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Aoife Daly, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, F - Harwich, Mass.) - Daly had five goals (including three game-winners) for 10 points in a 3-0 week for the Chargers to give her 13 on the season. She had both goals in a 2-0 win veruss Simmons, the deciding tally in a 2-0 win over USJ, and scroewd twice more in a 5-3 non-league victory over Thomas.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Nora Newman, Elms (Senior, GK - Woburn, Mass.) - Newman made 28 saves and allowed just four goals for an .875 save percentage in a 1-1 week for the Blazers. Prior to stopping 11 of 15 shots in a GNAC loss at JWU, she turned away all 17 shots she faced in a 1-0 shutout over Westfield State earlier in the week.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Courtney Larson, Colby-Sawyer (Fr, F - Auburn, Maine) - Larson had two goals and an assists for five points in a 3-0 week for the Chargers.

 

HONOR ROLL

Mikayla Lyston, Albertus Magnus (Jr., GK - Medford, N.Y.) - Lyston continued her busy junior season with 13 saves against Dean in a nail-biting 3-2 loss to Dean on Saturday Morning. The Medford, N.Y., native kept the Falcons within one goal for much of the contest, making critical saves on multiple occasions. Lyston finished the game just shy of her season average for saves, as she leads the GNAC with 16.75 stops per game. 

Hannah Tobey, Anna Maria (Jr., GK - Falmouth, Mass.) - Tobey made 12 saves and allowed just two goals in a combined 136 minutes during the AMCATS' 1-1 week. First against Bridgewater on Thursday, the junior tallied eight saves in a 1-0 shutout victory, the first of her career. Playing at Regis on Saturday, she recorded four saves as Anna Maria fell in double-overtime, 2-1.

Jillian Miele, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., F - Wilmington, Mass) - In two victories for the Wildcats this week, Miele totaled four assists and added one goal. Against Roger Williams in a non-conference affair, Miele had one goal and two assists, converting her only shot on the day for a goal. Against Elms in a conference tilt, she had two assists and five shots on target to help the Wildcats past the Blazers. 

Sarah Tetrault, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., B - North Easton, Mass.) - Anchoring a defense that allowed just three goals in over 135 minutes of play last week, Tetrault ascored the game-winning goal Saturday as Regis defeated Anna Maria for its first victory of the season. On Wednesday, the Pride defense allowed just two goals, including no goals in the final period as the team attempted to rally against Western New England. On Saturday, Tetrault helped the defense hold the AMCATS to one goal. In the second overtime period, she raced down the field to join a counterattack, diving to direct the ball with her stick into the net for the game-winning tally, her second goal of the season.

Jocelyn White, Regis (Mass.) (So., GK - Wilmington, Mass.) - White played a significant role in Regis's two close matches over the past week, registering 20 saves on the 23 shots she faced in a 1-1 week. On Wednesday against Western New England, she made seven saves and, at the time, posted a season-high save percentage of .778 as she kept the Pride in the match against the Golden Bears. On Saturday, she made 13 saves with a .929 save percentage to help Regis earn its first win of the season in dramatic fashion. In the first overtime period, White stopped six Anna Maria shots on goal, including a penalty stroke opportunity midway through the period.

Emma Rutledge, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Senior, F - Alfred, Maine) - Rutledge netted two goals and added an assist in a 1-1 week for the Monks. The senior forward notched a goal and an assist in a 3-0 conference win over Lasell on Saturday.
