Colby-Sawyer, Simmons to Host GNAC Field Hockey First-Round Matchups

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

WINTHROP, Mass. – It was an exciting Wednesday as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference regular-season wrapped up in advance of the 2018 GNAC Field Hockey Tournament, as Saint Joseph's College of Maine handled Lasell College, 5-1, at home and Colby-Sawyer College earned a 1-0 home victory over Simmons College.

As a result, SJC earns the right to the No. 1 seed in the GNAC Tournament, while Lasell still receives a first-round bye as the No. 2 seed. The win for Colby-Sawyer was also vital, as the Chargers earn the No. 3 seed and Simmons settles for the No. 4 seed.

Simmons will now welcome fifth-seeded Johnson & Wales University (RI) on Friday evening at 7:00 PM at the beautiful Daly Field. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but moved up due to inclement weather.

Poor weather has also pushed the other first-round game back to Sunday, as sixth-seeded Anna Maria College will travel to Colby-Sawyer for a 12:30 PM contest.

The JWU/Simmons winner will be at Saint Joseph's next Wednesday, Oct. 31 (7:00 PM) in the GNAC Tournament Semifinals and the Anna Maria/Colby-Sawyer prevailer will be at Lasell on Halloween (3:00 PM). The highest remaining seed will host the GNAC Championship on Saturday, November 3 with a trip to the 2018 NCAA Tournament on the line.
