Aidan Vining name Pitcher/Rookie of the Year

WINTHROP, Mass. – Anna Maria's Jarrod Marifiote and Johnson & Wales' Aidan Vining were selected as the major award winners along with the three GNAC All-Conference Teams that were announced Tuesday morning.

Marifiote was selected as the 2023 GNAC Player of the Year, while Vining earned both Pitcher and Rookie of the Year honors in the voting conducted by the league's 10 head baseball coaches following the conclusion of the regular season.

The AMCATS slugger ranked in the top-10 in a number of categories on the GNAC leaderboard, ranking third in hits (60), second in RBI (50), and fourth in home runs (8). He slashed .411/.480/.637, all of which also placed him in the top-10.

The JWU rookie hurler was a workhorse on the mound, tossing a league-leading 71.0 innings with seven complete games and three shutouts, both conference-bests. He also had a league-low 1.90 ERA, wile holding opposing batters to a miniscule .168 average.

Marifiote and Vining were also two members of the All-GNAC First Team. Joining Vining as pitching selections were his teammate Kyle Cutler and relief pitcher Luke Stephens from Saint Joseph's (Maine). The First Team infield featured three Wildcats with Miles Kelly selected at first base, Xavier Botelho across the diamond at third, and Riley Hasson at shortstop. JWU catcher Owen Davis and outfielder EJ Leone were also named to the First Team. Meanwhile, Lasell's Tim Callahan completed the infield at second base. Joining Leone and Marifiote in the outfield was George Chaya Jr. from Elms, while Anna Maria's James Powers was the First Team DH.

Additionally, JWU head coach Kevin Casey was named Coach of the Year and Saint Joseph's (Maine) won the Institutional Sportsmanship award.
