Women’s Tennis Earns First Win of 2019-20 in Season Opener

WATERVILLE, Maine – Regis College took the early lead and never looked back, defeating Thomas College, 9-0, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference women's collegiate tennis match held at the Alfond-Wales Tennis Courts on the campus of Colby College.

The number one doubles team of Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) and Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) did not lose a game in winning their set, 8-0. Both the number two doubles duo of Ginger Boodakian (Burlington, Mass.) and Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) and the number three doubles tandem of Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) and Lauren Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) completed their victories by the same 8-1 score.

The Mogelnicki sisters were the first to finish their singles contests, as both Lauren at number four singles and Katelyn at number three singles won in straight sets without losing a game (6-0, 6-0), with Katelyn's victory officially clinching the match for the Pride.

The other four singles matches ended up with the same straight-set score favoring Regis (6-1, 6-0), starting with Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) at number five singles. She was followed by Donovan at number one singles, Colby at number six singles, and McCormack at number two singles.

Regis College (1-0) opens Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play next Saturday, Sept. 7, heading to Daly Field in Brighton, Mass., to face Simmons University starting at 12 noon.
