Field Hockey Drops GNAC Contest At Lasell Saturday

NEWTON, Mass. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team was blanked, 7-0, on the road by the Lasell University Lasers in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on a gloomy Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field in Newton, Mass. The Lasers scored four times in the first half before tacking on three more goals in the second stanza to account for the final score.

GAME INFORMATION
Score: USJ 0, Lasell 7
Records: USJ (0-9, 0-4 GNAC), Lasell (6-4, 3-1 GNAC)
Location: Grellier Field (Newton, Mass.)

KEY MOMENTS

  • Lasell's junior forward Lily Stark (Saco, Maine) had a nose for the goal on the day and would finish the contest with a whopping career-high five goals for the Lasers in the victory. Stark wasted little time making her presence known in the game and scored the first three goals for the hosts. She found the back of the net twice in the first quarter with goals at the 5:32 mark and 8:51 mark. She then added her third goal of the day in the second quarter 20:14 into the match to log a first-half hat-trick.
  • Senior forward Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.) tacked on the fourth goal of the first half for the Lasers off a feed from Stark to give Lasell a commanding 4-0 advantage heading into the halftime intermission.
  • The Lasers and Stark would continue to apply pressure to the Blue Jays and two more third-quarter goals from Stark at the 33:00 mark and 39:47 mark ballooned the Lasell lead to 6-0. The fifth and final goal from Stark would result in an impressive 11-point outburst for her in the match.
  • Blaha netted her second marker of the contest just before the end of the third period with an unassisted strike at the 42:56 mark to give her a multi-goal game and account for the final margin of victory for the Lasers.

  • The Blue Jays earned more penalty corners than the Lasers in the contest, 7-5.
