CLERMONT, Fla. -- Senior Kimi Blewett hit four home runs to lead the Ohio Northern softball team to season-opening victories over Neumann (Pa.) and Emerson (Mass.) Monday at the NTC Games.
The Polar Bears started the day with an 11-2 win over Neumann in the morning and topped Emerson 7-4 in the afternoon.
Blewett hit home runs in her first two at-bats and of the season and finished the day 5-for-6 with four home runs and 6 RBI.
Against Nwumann, Blewett's 2-run home run started an 8-run first inning as ONU won the game in five innings due to the NCAA's 8-run rule.
Freshman Kelly Sheridan also had three RBI with a 2-run single and a sacrifice fly.
Junior Abbey Bensing (1-0) struck out eight and allowed just four hits in five innings of work.
Against Emerson, Blewett went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two more home runs.
Her 2-run home run in the top of the fourth frame capped a 4-run inning that turned a 3-2 ONU lead into a 7-2 advantage.
Sheridan went 1-for-3 with three more RBis and a solo home run.
Sophomore Dani Steepe (1-0) struck out nine and allowed just one earned run to earn the complete-game victory.
