GNAC Softball Weekly Honors: March 21, 2011

Ashley Gall (St. Joseph CT), Maddie Kluna (St. Joseph’s ME) and Stephanie Valerio (St. Joseph CT) have earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Softball Weekly Honors.

 

 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Stephanie Valerio, St. Joseph CT, So., Wolcott, CT

The Blue Jays’ Stephanie Valerio provided the offensive spark for St. Joseph’s lineup. Valerio batted .455 for the week producing 10 hits, 6 RBIs, and 8 runs scored. The sophomore added five walks with two stolen bases to earn a .556 on base percentage in the eight games. While in the field, Valerio made 26-27 plays at shortstop with only one error on the week.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Ashley Gall, St. Joseph CT, Fr., Stafford Springs, CT

The Blue Jay’s rookie, Ashley Gall, batted .417 in her first week of collegiate softball. Gall went 7-for-17 in the seven Spring Training games, with two home runs, 7 RBIs, 6 runs scored and a slugging percentage of .824.  

 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Maddie Kluna, St. Joseph’s ME, Jr., Standish, ME

St. Joseph’s Maddie Kluna led the Monks on the mound for the week earning a perfect 3-0 record, with a save, to bring the team to a 7-3 spring training week. The junior pitcher tossed a one-hitter with eight strikeouts in a 1-0 victory over Kenyon. In the win over Curry College, Kluna struck out a career high of 13 batters while only allowing four hits. Over the course of the week, she earned an ERA of 1.27, tallied 32 strikeouts and only two walks in 22 innings pitched.
