Johnson & Wales (W) and USJ (M) Win 2022-23 GNAC Commissioner’s Cups

GNAC COMMISSIONER'S CUP HISTORY

WINTHROP, Mass. — The Johnson & Wales women and University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) men were named the winners of the 2022-23 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Commissioner's Cups on Friday (June 9) morning.

The Wildcats earned 24 of a possible 30 points (80.0 percent) in the women's competition, sparked by GNAC Championship runs in four of the six sports they compete in. JWU took home the conference title in field hockey, soccer, volleyball, and lacrosse. It was the second-consecutive time, and sixth overall, that JWU claimed the prize on the women's side.

Meanwhile, USJ earned its first-ever GNAC Commissioner's Cup, earning 22 of a possible 30 points (73.3 percent). Highlighting the year was the 2022 GNAC men's soccer title. The Blue Jays were also the conference runners-up in basketball, swimming & diving, and lacrosse.

ABOUT THE GNAC COMMISSIONER'S CUP

The GNAC Commissioner's Cup annually recognizes the member institution achieving the highest level of athletic success throughout the academic year. It is based upon a point system and standings are determined by percentages in order to reflect the number of GNAC sports that each member sponsors.

Schools receive five points for winning a GNAC Championship, four points for advancing to a conference title game, three points for competing in a GNAC Semifinal, two points for qualifying for a GNAC Tournament, or one point for sponsoring the sport.

The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 14 member institutions and over 3,500 student-athletes across the New England region.
