
Women’s Tennis Defeats Non-League Foe Mount Ida, 8-1

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team topped Mount Ida 8-1 in non-conference action Friday afternoon at the Waterston Avenue Tennis Courts. The Lions reach 2-3 overall while the Mustangs dip to 1-3 on the season.
Eastern Nazarene captured all three doubles points on the afternoon. Elise Sleeper (Sanford, Maine) and Sharon Lemire (Lyndeboro, N.H.) posted an 8-1 victory at the No. 1 position. Samantha Jones (Wareham, Mass.) and Kathryn McLaughlin (Huntington Station, N.Y.) prevailed 8-2 at the second slot while Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Kelsey Waddle (Olathe, Kan.) earned an 8-3 win at the third spot.
In singles play, Sleeper collected her team-leading third victory of the fall at the second position with a 6-2, 6-1 decision. Jones edged Mount Ida's Danielle Riley in a first-set tiebreaker before capping off the match with a 7-5 win in the second frame at the No. 3 slot.
McLaughlin cruised to her second collegiate victory, rolling 6-0, 6-0 at the fourth spot. Burrello picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 5 position for the hosts. At the sixth singles slot, Waddle tallied her first victory of the season with an 8-2 result.
Lizzie Olszewski registered the Mustangs' lone win in the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lemire at the top position.
Eastern Nazarene resumes play in the Commonwealth Coast Conference September 19 as it hosts Curry.
