Bulldogs Move Past Women’s Lacrosse

NASHUA, NH: Rivier women's lacrosse lost to Dean College this afternoon in conference play on Joanne Merrill Field.   

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/18/23

- Score: Dean 18, Rivier 14

- Records: Rivier (2-1, 1-1 GNAC), Dean (3-1, 3-0 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- It was a high scoring game for the Bulldogs and Raiders, going shot for shot, lasting just over two hours.

- In the first quarter Dean was able to put away seven goals. Nina Medeiros had one, Maire Brown with four, Jazzy Sztyler-Magee earned one, and Haley Gaunt also added on one goal for the Bulldogs. The Raiders netted five goals in the first quarter with three from Sarah Lachance (Chelmsford, NH), one from Rachel Hinkley (Swedesboro, NJ), and the other earned by Caitlin Newell (Litchfield, NH).

- In the second quarter the Raiders continued to chase the Bulldogs. Cassie Hemmerdinger (Pelham, NH) added on a Riv goal and Chiara Skeels (Swanton, VT) fired in one as well with an assist from Newell. Gaunt of Dean scored again and Brown put away two more goals with an assist on the first goal from Allie Bezio.

- Rivier outscored Dean in the third quarter, but still could not gain the lead. Brown scored three out of four goals in this quarter for the Bulldogs, continuing to show her talent. Allie Bezio took a free position shot for Dean and was successful. Lachance and Hinkley tacked on another two goals apiece for the Raiders. Skeels and Newell scored about a minute apart and the assists were credited to Lachance.

- Bulldogs' Brown scored her 10th goal of the game in the fourth quarter, dominating the field. Medeiros passed by the Riv defenders on two separate occasions to earn a hat trick this afternoon, with an assist credited to Sztyler-Magee on the first goal. Sztyler-Magee buried her second goal of the game for Dean on a free position shot. Rivier was only able to score one goal this quarter, generated by a pass from Lachance and a goal by Hemmerdinger.

- Margaret Smith (Portland, ME) of the Raiders saved 17 shots this afternoon. Allie Stockwell of the Bulldogs had 27 saves, taking the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Shots: Rivier 56, Dean 45

- Ground Balls: Rivier 39, Dean 35

- Penalties: Dean received five yellow cards, Rivier received two yellow cards
