Women's Soccer Blown Past by Elms in Home Opener

- NASHUA, NH: The Rivier University women's soccer team fell to Great Northeast Athletic Conference newcomer Elms College this afternoon 4-0 in their home and conference opener.

  THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/3/2021

- Score: Elms 4, Rivier 0

- Records: Elms (1-1, 1-0 GNAC), Rivier (0-2, 0-1 GNAC)

 HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Raiders were able to hold the Blazers potent offense to just one through the first half. Elms' first goal came at 39:19 into the first half by Abby Goodnow when she was dragged down inside the 18 and awarded a penalty kick. After lining up, she was able to beat the Rivier keeper low and to the right.  

-  The Blazers extended their lead in the second half with three more scores by Elaina Vilar, Caroline Wilcox, and a second goal from Goodnow.

- For the Raiders, Olivia Maxwell (Hamden, CT) and Makayla Zulon (East Bridgewater, MA) each tested the Elms keeper with a shot on goal.

 INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Emily Mikelson (Concord, NH) started in net for the Raiders and saw just one shot on net. Maya Puma (Tyngsborough, MA) finished the game in net, facing five shots and saving two.
