Men's Basketball: Chappell reaches 1,000 career points at JWU

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior guard Issaiah Chappell (Sunapee, N.H.) became the latest member of the 1,000 point club this afternoon as the Rivier University Men's Basketball team fell to Johnson and Wales University, 99-71 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action inside the Wildcat Center. The loss moves the Raiders to 4-18 overall on the season with a 1-8 mark against the conference while the Wildcats up their record to 11-12 overall, 3-6 in league play.

Chappell needed just 16 points to eclipse the career milestone and did so with 7:04 remaining in the contest. After a missed shot by the Wildcats, Chappell was able to race the length of the floor and drive to the hoop where he was fouled and still made the basket that pushed him over 1,000 points. He later completed the three-point play. Chappell becomes just the 14th Rivier Men's Basketball student-athlete to reach 1,000 career points in Raider Blue, joining current Head Coach Lance Bisson (Class of 2009) and is the first since Tom Poitras '14 did so on February 5, 2013 on the same court at Johnson & Wales.

Chappell finished the night with a team-high 18 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Pharaoh Davis (Plainville, Mass.) added 13 points and junior Tyler Bradanese (Billerica, Mass.) chipped in with 12 points for the Raiders. Junior Patrick Meyers (Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.) notched his second straight game with double digits as he finished with 10.

The Wildcats were guided by the 27-point effort from Bryan Davis, who came off the bench to lead the team in points and rebounds while registering a double-double (10 rebounds). Also finishing with a double-double was Brian Hogan-Gary, who ended his day with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Justin Bullock collected 13 points in the win. John White was a bright spot in a reserve effort for JWU as he pumped in 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor.

Rivier will return to action on Tuesday night as they host Norwich University in a 7pm GNAC affair. Johnson and Wales will also be in GNAC action on Tuesday night as they travel to Lasell University for an 8pm tip.
