Men's Soccer falls to St. Joseph (CT) 5-0 in season opener
North Adams, MA- The University of St. Joseph (CT) men's soccer team defeated MCLA 5-0 this evening in their inaugural contest. The Blue Jays are in their first year of varsity competition. They improve to 1-0 on the season while the Trailblazers are now 0-1.
After a scoreless thirty minutes, the Blue Jays took over. In the 31st minute, they were the beneficiary of an own goal. Matt Lombardo fired a cross towards the right post that a Trailblazer defender caromed into the net for a 1-0 USJ advantage. They would tack on another marker just four minutes later.
Lombardo sent a corner kick into the box that was headed by Domeniko Skrelja that went right to Marcello Delvalle. Delvalle slipped it into the left corner and USJ led 2-0. The score would remain that way until halftime. USJ outshot MCLA 11-3 in the opening half of play.
In the second half, the Blue Jays extended their lead in the 48th minute. Kayden Parilla sent a cross into the box that found the foot of Kevin Bilbraut. His goal made it 3-0.
USJ's Daniel Castro added a pair of goals in the 82nd and 83rd minutes to complete the scoring.
The Blue Jays outshot MCLA 22-10 in the contest. Anes Gadun stopped one shot on his way to recording a shutout.
Sean Bradshaw absorbed the loss for MCLA.
The Trailblazers host Western New England on Sunday at Shewcraft Field.
