WSOC: Lasers beat Falcons 2-1

New Haven CT--The Lasell University women's soccer team defeated the Albertus Magnus Falcons, 2-1 Wednesday night at Celentano Field. The Lasers improve to 3-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play.  With the loss, the Falcons fall to 3-3-1 (1-1).

The Lasers got on the board in the 40th minute when freshman defender Brynn Foster (Londonderry, N.H) dribbled the ball down the right flank. She then crossed the ball in to freshman midfielder Evelyn DiFiore (Las Vegas, NV), who flicked the ball over the keeper's head for her first career collegiate goal.

Just as time was expiring in the first half, Falcon's senior defender Bridget Rosikiewicz (Naugatuck, CT) was able to get a shot off, but the ball bounced right off the crossbar and the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Lasers going into halftime.

Three minutes into the second half, the Falcons tied the game when Rosikiewicz dribbled down the left side of the field and crossed the ball into the box. The ball bounced off a Lasell defender and found its way to the feet of graduate student forward Jordan Kikosicki (East Haven, CT). Kikosicki then one timed the ball into the back of the net to level the game at 1-1.

In the 61st minute, the Lasers almost found the back of the net off a corner when sophomore midfielder Emily Dehart (Farmington, CT) crossed the ball in towards the box. Graduate student Serena Speight (Biddeford, ME) was on the receiving end of the cross and headed the ball in towards the goal, but Falcon's freshman goalkeeper Amy Stevens (Lincoln, RI) was there to make the save.

The Lasers broke the tie in the 82nd minute when DiFiore passed the ball to freshman forward Sarah Lynch (Warwick, RI). Lynch took a dribble to her left and then shot the ball diagonally into the back of the net to give the Lasers a 2-1 lead.

In the 89th minute, senior midfielder Keegan Riccio (West Haven, CT) had an opportunity for the hosts on a free kick, but the ball hit the crossbar and the final score remained 2-1 in favor of the Lasers.

Senior goalie Kyli Swan (Queen Creek, AZ) finished the game with three saves and Stevens made eight saves for the Falcons.

The Lasers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to New London, NH to take on Colby-Sawyer at 2:30 p.m. Albertus Magnus will also play Saturday as they travel to Elms for a 11 a.m. kickoff.
