HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Leopards opened the match on a 7-2 run using a combined 4.5 points from Hunter Oshman (Pennington, N.J.) and Colin Stockton (Hummelstown, Pa.). MSOE turned a 9-3 run, tying the set at 10-apiece, as both teams battled point-for-point until a final kill from Ryan Love (Gaithersburg, Md.) gave the Leopards a 25-23 win. Love led the Black & Gold with five kills, while Oshman chipped in with four in the opener.
  • MSOE hit a blistering .500 in the second set with 14 kills and three errors on 22 swings, powered by six kills from Matthew Binkus. Binkus capped a 7-3 run with a kill off the hands of Kalvin Fellows, and later built a 15-9 advantage to force a Wentworth timeout. Binkus put down back-to-back kills to keep the Raiders on top, and put the set away 25-17.
  • Love and classmate Ryan Engel (Floral Park, N.Y.) steered Wentworth to a 6-3 advantage in the third set, but MSOE quickly retaliated and teetered within a single point on three occasions before a block from Jacob Sirny and Binkus tied the set 10-10. After several lead changes and tied scored, MSOE narrowly escaped the set and gained a 2-1 match lead after a Binkus block and a kill from Jake Christiansen.
  • Despite MSOE leading by nine points in the middle of the set, the Leopards ignited a spirited comeback with a 10-4 run, which pulled WIT within one, 19-18, forcing a Raiders' timeout. Wentworth stayed within one point until Ben Pung put the set away by a 25-23 set score.
