Wildcats Take Down Women’s Lacrosse

PROVIDENCE, RI: Rivier women's lacrosse lost to Johnson & Wales University this afternoon in conference play on the road.   

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/1/23

- Score: JWU 17, Rivier 4

- Records: Rivier (3-4, 2-4 GNAC), JWU (6-2, 6-0 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- In the first quarter, Johnson & Wales outscored the Raiders 6-2. Wildcats' goals were scored by Taina Gamory, two from Katie Sloan (one earned on a free position shot), another two from Madeleine Gould, and Maris DiBeneditto with the final goal of the quarter. Sarah Lachance (Chelmsford, MA) put away two goals to keep Rivier in the game.

- It was a silent second quarter for the Raiders. JWU stretched their lead by five, with a goal each from Izzy Babb, DiBeneditto, Gould on a free position shot, and Ally Wilson with two.

- The Raiders remained scoreless in the third quarter, while Johnson and Wales buried another four goals. Gamory contributed with one goal and Gould racked up three more goals for the Wildcats.

- Johnson & Wales' Gamory found the back of the net again in the fourth quarter increasing the score to 16-2. Caitlin Newell (Litchfield, NH) recorded back-to-back goals for Riv, breaking the silence. Sloan of JWU tapped in the final goal of the game.

- Raiders' Lindsey Kruger (New Bedford, MA) saved seven shots in net today. Wildcats' Emma Glyman also had seven saves and earned the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Shots: JWU 31, Rivier 14

- Ground Balls: Rivier 29, JWU 29

- Penalties: Rivier received two yellow cards, JWU received one yellow card
