MVB: Lasell drops non-conference match to MIT; Moore finds 10 digs

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lasell University men's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to the Engineers of MIT, 3-0 on Tuesday night.

The Lasers fall to an overall record of 9-10 while MIT improves to 11-3.

Senior Scott Sterenberg (Oceanside, N.Y.) led the way for the Lasers with 10 kills on 21 attempts. Junior Cobi Moore (Danville, N.H.) recorded 10 digs in the loss.

The Lasers competed early on in the first set by trading points until the 10-7 mark. The Engineers went on an eight-point run with junior setter Nathan Wang (Saratoga, Calif.) behind the service line. Later on in the set, MIT produced another six-point run to extend their lead to 24-9 before a Lasers service error to close out the set.

Again, the Lasers stuck with the Engineers for the early going in the second set. With a 14-12 lead, the home team began to separate. MIT would go on to win 25-17 with a few kills from sophomore Troy Oliveira (San Diego, Calif.).

In the third and final set, the Lasers found themselves within two points at 21-19 after a service ace from freshman Jesus Garcia (Honolulu, Hawaii). The Engineers went on to outscore the Lasers 4-2 to close out the set.

The Lasers will look to bounce back this Friday, February 28 in a conference match-up with the Emerson Lions at 7 p.m.
