Falcons Overcome Sharks in Soccer 2-1

BOSTON, Mass. ? The Albertus Magnus Falcons edged out the Simmons Sharks 2-1 in a GNAC conference thriller Wednesday night at The Winsor School fields. The game was tied at one until the 82nd minute when Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) bounced a shot past Sharks keeper Ashley Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.) to take the lead.

The game was tied at one until the 82nd minute when Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) bounced a shot past Sharks keeper Ashley Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.) to take the lead.

Simmons was on the scoreboard early when freshman Keri Acheson (Peabody, Mass.) struck a cross ball from junior Ally Ayotte (Litchfield, N.H.) past the Falcons goalkeeper Christina Dineson (Milford, Conn.) at 13:26. But Albertus Magnus tied the game at one in the 37th minute to end the first half scoring on a goal by Meghan Loughman (Trumbull, Conn.), assisted by Figueroa.

The second half was back and forth, with quality shots and saves by both teams. Sharks forward Desh Perera (Reading, Mass.) kept the Falcons defense on their toes, recording four of the team's 13 shots on goal. The Sharks had a slight advantage in corner kicks, 6-4. Dineson recorded 12 saves in the win, while Wheeler posted nine in the loss.

The Sharks (2-5) travel to Rivier for another GNAC conference match up on Saturday, September 24th at 1:00 p.m. The Falcons (6-1) host Johnson & Wales in GNAC conference play also on September 24th at 1:00 p.m.
