Sharks Shutout Mustangs 4-0

Sharks sophomore Desh Perera (Reading, Mass.) scored twice to lead the Simmons soccer team to a 4-0 shutout win against the Mount Ida College Mustangs in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Sharks move to 6-7-2 overall and 5-4-2 in the conference. The Mustangs fall to 2-12 overall and 1-10 in conference play.

BOSTON, Mass. – Sharks sophomore Desh Perera (Reading, Mass.) scored twice to lead the Simmons soccer team to a 4-0 shutout win against the Mount Ida College Mustangs in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Sharks move to 6-7-2 overall and 5-4-2 in the conference. The Mustangs fall to 2-12 overall and 1-10 in conference play.

The game was scoreless for the first 16 minutes of play, with both teams testing out waters on offense. The Sharks struck first when junior Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) blasted a shot past Mustangs keeper Devan Meeker at 16:59.

Perera dribbled the ball up the wing and launched a shot that found the back of the net at 23:40 to increase the Sharks lead to two. As the first half came to an end, the Sharks held a significant lead in shots, 12-2, and a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Sharks offense continued to dominate in the second half. Senior Chelsea Hersey (Newburyport, Mass.) registered her first goal of the year off a pass from junior Alma-Lynn Dupont (Bowling Green, Ohio) at 61:47. However, Dupont wasn't finished as she fed Perera for her second goal of the game at 71:41 to end the scoring.

The Sharks host GNAC rival Emerson on October 19th at 7:00 p.m. while the Mustangs host Saint Joesph's College (Maine) on the same date at 3:30 p.m. for a conference match.
