GNAC COMMISSIONER'S CUP HISTORY
WINTHROP, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales women's and Norwich men's programs were announced as the winners of the 2023-24 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Commissioner's Cups on Tuesday (June 4) morning.
The Wildcats participated in seven of the conference's 11 women's championship sports, earning 24 of a possible 35 points, resulting in a 68.6 points percentage in the Commissioner's Cup standings. JWU put itself won three GNAC titles this year, starting with championship performances in field hockey and soccer in the fall. They added another conference crown in the spring as the final team standing in women's lacrosse. It is the third year in a row that the Wildcats have earned the trophy on the women's side and the seventh time overall.
Norwich, meanwhile, wins its first men's GNAC Commissioner's Cup since the 2012-13 academic year when it shared the title with JWU. The Cadets earned 28 of a possible 40 points, participating in eight of the conference's 11 men's championship sports. The year was highlighted by its GNAC title in swimming and diving. Norwich qualified for the GNAC Tournament in each of the team sports it sponsored and reached at least the semifinals in all, but one. It also had runner-up finishes in cross country, golf, and soccer.
Colby-Sawyer finished as the runner-up on the women's side, thanks in part to its GNAC Championship titles in cross country and tennis. Meanwhile, Emmanuel, which earned the GNAC Indoor Track & Field crown, ranked third in the standings. Simmons, Regis, and Saint Joseph's (Maine) filled in the next three spots in that other and each had one championship title to their name. The Sharks won the softball championship, the Pride were the outdoor track & field champions, and the Monks finished on top in basketball. Lasell, which received five points as the volleyball champion, ranked seventh with the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) rounding out the top half. Norwich, which ranked ninth was the final school to earn a GNAC women's title as the swimming and diving champion.
New England College and Rivier tied for 10th Albertus Magnus, Elms, Mitchell, Dean, and Anna Maria closing out the standings in that order.
Saint Joseph's (Maine) was the runner-up for the men with three GNAC titles this season. The Monks won cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field. They were followed by USJ, the GNAC Champions in basketball and lacrosse. JWU's soccer championship helped it earn the No. 4 spot in the men's standings, while Regis closed out the top-five. Colby-Sawyer and Lasell tied for the sixth spot in this year's standings, followed by Emmanuel. Next, Dean and Rivier both finished with 40.0 percent point-percentages to tie for eighth. Newcomers Mitchell and NEC tied for 10th place in this year's standings, each earning a GNAC title in their first year in the conference. The Mariners claimed the 2024 baseball title, while the Pilgrims earned the 2023-24 golf championship

ABOUT THE GNAC COMMISSIONER'S CUP
The GNAC Commissioner's Cup annually recognizes the member institution achieving the highest level of athletic success throughout the academic year. It is based upon a point system and standings are determined by percentages in order to reflect the number of GNAC sports that each member sponsors.
Schools receive five points for winning a GNAC Championship, four points for advancing to a conference title game, three points for competing in a GNAC Semifinal, two points for qualifying for a GNAC Tournament, or one point for sponsoring the sport.
