GNAC Recognizes Division III Week
Boston, Mass.- The Great Northeast Athletic Conference opened the week of Monday April 8th, 2013 by celebrating NCAA Division III Week. The week long celebration, running from April 8th through April 14th is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III institutions to observe and celebrate the impact the of athletics and student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community.
BOSTON, Mass.- The Great Northeast Athletic Conference opened the week of Monday April 8th, 2013 by celebrating NCAA Division III Week. The week long celebration, running from April 8th through April 14th is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III institutions to observe and celebrate the impact the of athletics and student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community.
Institutions within the GNAC, as well as across the nation, are encouraged to recognize those involved with athletics through activities involving: academic accomplishment, athletic experience, or leadership and community involvment on the instutions campus or community.
The NCAA Division III Week is an event that is apart of the NCAA’S Identidy Initiative, and was introduced in 2010 as a part of an effort to sharpen the Division’s Identidy. Since the launch of NCAA Division III Week, the inititive of the event has been to provide Division III institutions and conferences with an opportunity to explain why those involved with athletics to explain why they prefer to compete at the Division III level. The goal of the NCAA Division III level is to provide a place where “student-athletes can follow passions and develop potential”, according to the NCAA. The NCAA National office will continue to make the NCAA Dvision III week an annual event, in hope’s of spreading more awareness about the athletic Division and those involved.
The GNAC will participate in the NCAA Divison III Week Event in hopes to capture the true essence of Division III athletics, and demonstrate the full integration of the conference’s student-athlete’s into each institution’s campus culture. Institutions within the GNAC will look to get student-athletes involved in activities alongside faculty, the student body, admissions, and alumni of each school. Ultimately, through both local and national activation, the goal is to build a greater awareness and understanding of Division III athletics.
