PAXTON, Mass. – Anna Maria College’s Director
of Athletics David Shea announced today the appointment of several
key positions in the AMCATS’ Athletic Department.
After an eight year hiatus Sharon Zenevitch returns to Anna
Maria as Head Field Hockey Coach. Samantha Shomo, a recent Western
New England University graduate takes over the reigns as the Head
Women’s Volleyball Coach. Mark Lange, making the transition
from high school, is the new Men’s Lacrosse Coach and
Bettiann Michalik makes the Route 56 jump from Becker College as
Sports Information Director.
Coach Zenevitch began her AMCATS coaching career in 1988, she
spearheaded both the softball and field hockey teams for 6 seasons.
She was back on the sidelines again from 1999-2003. Most recently
she was the interim field hockey coach at Becker College.
While at Anna Maria Zenevitch won 3 Commonwealth Coast
Conference (CCC) softball titles, a pair of Massachusetts
Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (MAIAW) softball
championships and was named CCC Field Hockey Coach of the Year
(2000). During her time at Becker the team won the inaugural New
England Collegiate Conference Field Hockey Championship.
Sharon’s overall winning record of 186-189-6 at AMC spans
four decades.
The Anna Maria field hockey team is a new member of the
NCAA’s New England Collegiate Conference.
Coach Shomo arrives at Anna Maria with a wealth of playing
experience. During her four year career at Western New England
University she was co-captain in 2010, received the WNE Athletics
Coaches’ Award and Unsung Hero Award. During her summers
Samantha was a volleyball coach and counselor at the Raritan
Athletic Center (Flemington, NJ) and Hunterdon YMCA.
Shomo graduated Summa cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in
Psychology and was named to the CCC All-Academic Team. She spent
two years working in the WNE athletic department serving as a NCAA
Champs/Life Skills Program mentor.
Lange comes to Anna Maria College from Wayland High School,
where he served on the coaching staff in several capacities from
2008-2011. He was named Dual County League small division Assistant
Coach of the Year (2010). His other lacrosse experiences include
camp director at Precision Lacrosse Inc., junior varsity coach at
Dracut High School and head coach for the New England Select
Lacrosse League.
Lange is a 2003 graduate from Curry College where he was a
four year starter for the Colonels. Among his many accolades
include team captain, Curry’s Male Scholar Athlete of the
Year (2003) and CCC Men’s Lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the
Year (2003).
Lange earned his Master’s Degree from Simmons College
and is currently employed at The Darnell School.
Michalik was the first full-time Sports Information Director
at Becker College from 2005-2008 and remained in the athletic
department part-time until 2011. She was responsible for all media
relations for the colleges 17 intercollegiate teams. This included
compiling all statistical information, writing game stories and
maintaining the athletic website.
Previous to Becker, Michalik spent 10 years in the Worcester
IceCats organization and has her Master’s Degree in Sports
Management from The United States Sports Academy (1993).
The football team also hired three new assistant coaches, Ryan
Kelly, Rocco DiMeco and Matt Kelly have all been add to the AMCATS
2011 staff.
