Kreckie, Hebenstreit Awarded 2008 GNAC Sportsmanship AwardsAugust 01, 2008Saint Joseph's (ME) Michael Hebenstreit and Simmons College's Lauren Kreckie have been chosen as the 2008 GNAC Sportsmanship Award recipients. The Conference award qualifies both Michael and Lauren for the NCAA Sportsmanship Award that is presented later this summer.

Saint Joseph's Leger Named 2008 GNAC Woman Of The YearAugust 01, 2008Recent Saint Josephs College (Maine) graduate Jillian Leger (Westminster, Mass.) has been named the 2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Woman of the Year. As the GNAC winner, Leger will also be nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year award, one of the most prestigious honors the NCAA bestows. The award recognizes senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

Johnson & Wales Men & Norwich Women Capture the 2007-2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Commissioner's CupJune 02, 2008The Johnson & Wales mens teams finished their 2007-2008 campaign for the GNAC Commissioners Cup with a conference tournament victory in mens tennis to help cushion their lead and win the 2007-2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Mens Commissioners Cup. Spearheaded by the women's lacrosse team's conference championship, and the women's cross country team's runner-up showing at the league meet last fall, Norwich University won the 2007-08 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Commissioner's Cup.

The Great Northeast Athletic Conference held another successful coaching clinicAugust 27, 2007Newton, MA Soccer coaches from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference recently held a free soccer coaching clinic for the community. The GNAC Coaches spoke on topics such as running a practice, offensive and defensive drills, and sportsmanship. Participants ranged from youth soccer coaches to select team coaches. The GNAC coaches volunteering their time were: Kyle Dezotell, Norwich University; Cory Kinsella, Pine Manor College; Erica Mastrogiacomo, Simmons College; and Gregg Miller, Johnson & Wales University.

Key note speaker announced for 2007 GNAC Professional Development SeminarAugust 15, 2007The Great Northeast Athletic Conference is proud to announce that the key note speaker for our 2nd annual Professional Development Seminar being held in Boston on August 15 and 16, 2007 will be Dan Doyle the Director of the Institute of International Sport and the founder of National Sportsmanship Day. Dan Doyle is a Graduate of Bates College, where he was co-captain of the men's varsity basketball team. Dan is also a graduate of the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy at Tufts University, and he holds honorary doctorates from Bridgewater State College and the University Rhode Island. Recently, Dan was inducted into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame, considered to be the highest honor for citizens of Rhode Island. He also serves as a trustee at his Alma Mater, Bates College.
