Women's Soccer Shuts Out Simmons, 3-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 8, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory over Simmons University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the GNAC. The Chargers will travel to, reigning GNAC champion, Lasell on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. contest. Simmons drops to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Sharks host Rivier on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The first half was evenly played throughout with each side having a couple of chances, but neither team could find the back of the net.

Colby-Sawyer broke the scoreless tie in the 57th minute when senior Amanda Martin (Amesbury, Mass.) sent a ball towards net from 35 yards out that snuck over the outstretched reach of the Simmons goalie.

In the 73rd minute, Colby-Sawyer senior Hannah Fields (Shapleigh, Maine) took a shot that was saved by the keeper, but the ball bounced right back to Fields and she deposited the Chargers' second goal of the match into the net.

Martin was at it again in the 83rd minute. She scored on another long range attempt to put Colby-Sawyer up for good, 3-0.

Simmons outshot Colby-Sawyer 16-5 and each team took five corner kicks.

Senior Oona Bond (Southborough, Mass.) had five saves to earn the shutout for the Chargers. Simmons senior keeper Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine) made five stops.
