Women's Basketball Wins Regular Season Finale at Univ. of Saint Joseph

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - February 22, 2020 - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team earned a 62-43 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory at the University of Saint Joseph in a regular season finale for both teams. 

Colby-Sawyer finishes the regular season with an 18-7 overall record and a 7-4 mark in the conference. The Chargers will be on the road on Tuesday for a GNAC quarterfinal contest. The Blue Jays fall to 11-14 overall and 3-8 in the GNAC.

Colby-Sawyer senior Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine) led all players with her 15th double-double of the season. She posted 16 points and 14 rebounds to go with four blocks. Junior Joslin Wainwright (Plainfield, N.H.) scored 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while first-year Caitlyn Boucher (Swanzey, N.H.) chipped in with 11 points. Senior Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) contributed nine points and seven assists. 

Anna Chevarella led the Blue Jays with 11 points. Deanna De La Cruz added nine points and seven rebounds. 

The Chargers scored the first six points of the game with three points from Wainwright and a trey by junior Riley Corrigan (Winooski, Vt.). Colby-Sawyer later led 11-4 before the Blue Jays closed the gap to 12-9. The visitors finished the frame with four more points to lead 16-9 after 10 minutes. 

A Sugars jumper gave Colby-Sawyer a 24-11 lead, early in the second stanza. Sydney Noyes (Newbury, Mass.) made a layup with 2:24 left in the half to put Colby-Sawyer on top 33-20. The Chargers took a 35-25 lead into the halftime break. 

In the third quarter, Colby-Sawyer outscored Saint Joseph 9-8 to increase its lead to 11 after 30 minutes. 

The Chargers cruised in the fourth with an 18-10 scoring margin to secure their 18th victory of the season.
