Chargers Storm Back for 70-57 Win at NVU-Lyndon

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - December 10, 2019 - Senior Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine) tied a career-high with 29 points on 11-14 shooting to help bring the Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team back from a 12-point deficit, late in the second quarter, for a 70-57 victory at Northern Vermont University-Lyndon. 

Colby-Sawyer improves to 8-1 and will travel to Castleton on Friday for a 7 p.m. tip. Lyndon drops to 1-7. 

Sugars scored 27 of her 29 points in the second half and added 10 rebounds to record her seventh double-double of the season. Sugars also moved up three places to ninth on the all-time scoring list with 1,115 career points. Senior Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) tallied 14 points (8-8 FT), nine assists and six rebounds. Junior Joslin Wainwright (Plainfield, N.H.) contributed a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. 

Lyndon received 16 points from Alisha Celley, with 14 coming in the first half. Alissa Mitchell added 14 points, five assists and four steals. Ashlynn Bardos registered 13 points. 

The Chargers trailed 29-17 with 3:11 to play in the first half and were behind 35-24 at the break. 

Colby-Sawyer began to chip away early in the third frame with high percentage shots in the paint. The Chargers scored nine points in the first three minutes to force a Lyndon timeout. A Sugars layup with 3:06 to play in the third gave Colby-Sawyer a 43-42 lead. Colby-Sawyer outscored Lyndon 21-9 and shot 80% to take a 45-44 lead after 30 minutes. 

The teams traded baskets for the first few possessions of the fourth, but Colby-Sawyer asserted itself down low to slowly pull away thanks to 63.6% shooting. The Chargers won the fourth frame 25-13 and the game 70-57. 

Colby-Sawyer outrebounded Lyndon 49-28. The Chargers made 18-of-24 free throws, while Lyndon hit 10-of-11.
