NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 6, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team defeated Norwich, 8-1, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.   

Colby-Sawyer improves to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The Chargers travel to Springfield on Sunday for a noon first serve. Norwich drops to 8-8 overall and 0-2 in the GNAC. The Cadets will host GNAC preseason favorite Eastern Nazarene on Monday at 3:30 p.m.

The Chargers won two of three doubles matches to begin the day. Colby-Sawyer senior Alex Wright (St. Austell, Cornwall, England) and first-year Julius Lowman (Bavaria, Germany) defeated sophomores Abbie Barker (Warren, Vt.) and Alexi Gilmore (Haverhill, Mass.) 8-3 at the top flight. The Chargers' No. 2 duo of juniors Erik Antonacci (Bolton, Vt.) and Matt Burke (Milford, Conn.) cruised to an 8-1 victory over senior Sam Beiter (Youngstown, N.Y.) and first-year Tim Santy (San Antonio, Texas). Norwich's lone point came from the No. 3 tandem of juniors Dylan Ackerman (Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands) and Tim Birnbaum (Mahwah, N.J). They edged junior Mike White (Woburn, Mass.) and sophomore Matt Williamson (Brookline, N.H.) 8-6.

Colby-Sawyer won all six singles matches in straight-sets to come away with the 8-1 victory.

Alex Wright won his top-flight singles match by a 6-2, 6-1 score. He now has 51 career singles victories to move into a tie for second with Evan Campbell '09. Wright and Campbell are also tied for third in career wins with 91.
