NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 8, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team began its tenure in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) with a 2-0 victory over Anna Maria on Saturday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the GNAC. The Chargers will host Suffolk on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Anna Maria drops to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in conference action. The AMCATS travel to Norwich on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. contest with the Cadets.

The Chargers put across the first goal of the match in the 52nd minute when first-year Tim Driscoll (Framingham, Mass.) sent a pass from the end line into the box. Senior Cody Kostrzebski (Gansevoort, N.Y.) was waiting and calmly one-timed the ball passed the diving keeper for his first collegiate tally.

The home team added an insurance goal in the 75th minute. First-year Mason Galbato (North Easton, Mass.) sent a shot towards goal that was deflected back to senior Noah Camelo (Marblehead, Mass.). Camelo ripped the rebound into the left corner of the goal for a 2-0 lead, which would be the final score.

Colby-Sawyer ended the match with a 17-7 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Senior Shane Sacks (Huntington Station, N.Y.) earned the clean sheet with a pair of saves. Junior Kieran Thapalia (Albany, N.Y.) also came up a save in the box when he headed a ball out of danger that was destined for the back of the net.

Sophomore Jeffre Donahue (Rockland, Mass.) finished with five saves for Anna Maria.
